Cartha Louise Murphy Biddix, 93, of Statesville, passed away surrounded by her family on November 18, 2025, in Statesville, North Carolina. She was born on August 8, 1932, in Burnsville, Yancey County, to the late Lawrence Murphy and Dora Self Murphy.
Cartha was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was married to her devoted husband, Cecil Biddix, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Murphy and Dora Self Murphy; son, Michael Biddix; grandson, Chris Harwell; four sisters: Dorothy (Robert) Young, Rena (Jack “Bubby”) Mace, Shirley (Fred) Loftis, and Pauline (Gordon) Chandler; one brother, Tommy “Curly” (Linda) Murphy; grandchild-in-law, Joe Mowbray; as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law.
Cartha lived a long, full life surrounded by the people she loved. She cherished time spent camping, traveling both to the coast and the mountains, sewing and quilting, enjoying family dinners, working in her yard, and spoiling her many grandchildren. Her home was always warm, welcoming, and full of love. It was the gathering place for countless memories that her family will hold close forever.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Gary) Johnson and Susie Biddix, both of Statesville, NC; one son, Allan Biddix of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren: Kimberly Mowbray, Bradley (Nesa) Johnson, Michelle (Mark) Burich, Jeremy (Melody) Harwell; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dot Biddix of Burnsville; and brother-in-law, Charles Buchanan of Burnsville, NC; as well as extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, loved ones, and several additional family members who were precious to her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. for visitation.
Interment will follow at South Estatoe Baptist Church Cemetery in the South Toe Community of Burnsville, NC. Pastor Kent Murphy and Pastor Matt Murphy will officiate. Music will be provided by Mary Lou Wilson. Pallbearers will include Taylor, Brent, and Eli Johnson and Wilson Mowbray.
