Christopher Davis of McDowell County tried his luck on a $10 scratch-off on Monday and won the first $1 million top prize in a new lottery game.
Davis bought his lucky MONOPOLY® ticket from Community Grocery & Hardware on Statesville Boulevard in Cleveland.
When Davis arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $432,063.
The $10 MONOPOLY® game debuted in November with four $1 million top prizes. Three $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
NC Lottery provided $1,155,673 to education programs in Mitchell County in 2024, $1,342,178 to Yancey, $1,290,234 to Avery and $1,324,496 to Madison.
