A bomb threat at East Yancey Middle School Wednesday morning was determined to be a hoax after a full investigation.
Yancey County Schools says notes were found at the school stating “I have a bomb,” prompting an immediate evacuation while authorities searched the building.
The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly and identified two possible suspects as the investigation got underway.
Officials say a full sweep of the school found no credible threat, and students were safely returned to class later in the morning.
School leaders thanked Sheriff Shane Hilliard, deputies, and school staff for their quick response, and are reminding families to talk with students about the serious consequences of threats and pranks.
The investigation remains ongoing.
