Stanley Higgins, age 86, of Burnsville, North Carolina, passed away on April 20, 2026, at his residence.
Born on February 21, 1940, in Yancey County, he was the son of the late Gus Higgins and Bessie Higgins. Stanley was a hardworking man who spent his career as a telephone engineer with Verizon. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters: Fay Morrow and Shirley Yates.
Stanley enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved the lake, racing, collecting unique items, and especially working on and driving his cars. He was known for staying busy and doing things his own way.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Cathy Franklin (Rickey) of Burnsville, who also served as his caregiver, Danny Morrow (Rebecca) of Burnsville and Robbie Renfro (Marvin) of Green Mountain. Also surviving is his friend of 21 years, Billy Buckner and his wife, Doris, of Burnsville as well as their children: Will Buckner (Sarah) of Weaverville, Amanda Fields (Clark) of Weaverville and Carla Buckner (Spencer) of Oregon.
In accordance with his wishes, Stanley will be laid to rest on his property at the Higgins Family Cemetery. Services date and time will be announced.
