Ray Buchanan

Ray Buchanan, age 92, of Marble Mine Rd., Bakersville, NC went home to be with the Lord November 5, 2020. Ray was a native of Mitchell County, NC and was a son of the late David and Minnie Chandler Buchanan. He was previously employed with Clinchfield Textiles and also Mitchell County, NC Department of Sanitation and Recycling. He was a veteran of The United States Army serving in Japan.

Ray was a member, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and former song leader at Silver Chapel Baptist Church. He enjoyed, golfing, sports, fishing, and was an avid Redskins, Carolina, and Braves fan. He also enjoyed raising tobacco and farming in his garden.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Joyce Buchanan, one daughter, Jane McKinney (Mike), one son, Jack Buchanan (Glenda), one sister, Anna Mae McKinney, all of Bakersville, NC, six grandchildren; Cindy Ballew (Mike), Kelly Barnett (Merle), Candice Hyatt (Marc), Julie Thacker (Jonathan),  Thomas Buchanan (Courtney), and Ashley Glenn (Kevin), fourteen great grandchildren and one on the way, and one great great grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by four brothers; David Buchanan Jr., Glen Buchanan, Brown Buchanan, and Lee Buchanan, and a great grandchild, Angel Stafford.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 8, 2020 at 2:00PM in Silver Chapel Baptist Church with  Jonathan Thacker, Reid Cooper, Russell McKinney, and Mike Ballew officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sgt EL Randolph Chapter 57 DAV conducting military honors. Because of the covid 19 pandemic we ask that you bring and wear a mask at the services.
