Jeff Long, age 65, of Little Henson Creek Road in Newland, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 23, 1956 in Avery County, he was the son of the late James Albert and Doreda Johnson Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Jerry and Steve Long and his sister; Karen Buchanan.
Jeff was a member of the Henson Creek Baptist Church and was retired from the Unimin Corporation in Spruce Pine with forty-four years of service. Jeff loved his family and was particularly fond of his grandchildren. He enjoyed all of his family and spending time with them and always put them before himself. He also enjoyed being outdoors and gardening.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-six years; Sandy Long of the home; his son; Adam Long and wife, Jessica of Newland; his daughter; Cassie Forbes and husband, Mark of Pineola; his grandchildren; Ryder, Taylor, and Lilli; his brother; Mike Long and wife, Jeanine of Spruce Pine; his sisters; Linda Stafford and husband, Ricky and Patti Rhyne and Jerry Troxler all of Newland; his sister-in-law; Carol Long of Spruce Pine and his brothers-in-law; Larry Rhyne and Gene Wiseman both of Newland.
The graveside service and burial will be on Friday, July 23, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Yellow Mountain Cemetery with the Rev. Earl Carver, Jr. officiating.
On lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to; Henson Creek Baptist Church, C/O Norma Goforth, 251 Oak Tree Lane, Newland, NC 28657.
The family would like to extend a ‘Special Thank You’ to Hospice of Caldwell County and to Dr. Robert Clark for their wonderful care of Jeff.
