Dorothy Webb McKinney, age 88, of Roaring Creek, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at her residence surround by her family. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Ethel Clark Webb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Port Christopher McKinney, who passed away in 2010; her daughter, Vicky Sue Elliott, who passed away in 2018; her son, Jerry Mack Webb, who passed away in 2023; grand-daughters: Rhonda Renee Johnson and Julie Johnson; sisters: Fairy Buchanan and Fenny Webb and brothers: Charles Jim, Page, Vester, Cleney, Jack, and Lynn Berge Webb.
Dorothy was a member of The Peoples Church on Roaring Creek. She loved to garden, her beautiful flowers, cooking, canning, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed reading her Bible and making dolls, but mostly loved her family and her Lord.
Surviving are her children: Waits Hughes (Sheri) of Summerfield, FL, Kathy Owens (Mike) of Granite Falls, Connie McKinney of Valdese, and Chris McKinney (Tina) of Roaring Creek; nine grandchildren, and several great- grandchildren; siblings: Eunice Webb Hughes, Vonnie Buchanan, and Orville Webb. Several other nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
Her services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21st at The Peoples Church on Roaring Creek with the family receiving friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service. Rev. Chris Nance will officiate. A Private burial will follow at the Lower Hughes Cemetery.
