Larry Bruce McKinney

Larry Bruce McKinney, aged 70, of Wilmington, NC, peacefully passed away on March 25, 2024, after a brave battle with Cancer.

Born on September 18, 1953, in the Grassy Creek Community of Spruce Pine. Larry was a beloved husband, stepfather, brother, and friend.

A dedicated Electronics Engineer, Larry enjoyed a fulfilling career, culminating in his retirement from General Electric Aviation. Throughout his professional journey, he also lent his expertise to Turbomeca in Monroe, NC, Hunt Manufacturing in Statesville, NC, and Corning in Winston-Salem, NC.

Beyond his work, Larry found joy and passion in music, showcasing his talents as a bass and fiddle player in various professional settings. His harmonious melodies touched the hearts of many and left a lasting impact on those who had the pleasure of listening to him play.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Kimberly D. McKinney; stepson, Christopher E. O’Neal; brother, Terry R. McKinney; sisters, Andrea M. McKinney and Sandra Williams and husband, Edward; nephews, Richard McKinney and wife, Shana, Matthew McKinney and wife, Stella, Joshua Sparks, and Bryce McKinney; as well as a grand-niece, Shalya McKinney. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Bruce and Yvonne McKinney.

During this time of mourning, may his memory be a source of comfort and strength for all who knew and cherished him. Larry’s legacy of kindness, talent, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. May he rest in eternal peace.

A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 29 2024 in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in the McCoury’s Rock Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
