Traffic Stop Leads to Major Methamphetamine Trafficking Conviction

The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office announces the conviction and sentencing of Jerome Frederick Honeycutt following a traffic stop conducted by Deputy Myria Hylemon, and a subsequent search of the vehicle by Detective Brandon Wilson in March 2025.
As a result of the investigation and subsequent prosecution, Honeycutt pled guilty to the following charges:
(2) Counts of Felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine
Felony Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling Place for Controlled Substance
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Cocaine
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine
Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
On May 5, 2026, Honeycutt was sentenced to 70–93 months in prison and ordered to pay a mandatory $50,000 fine.
