Mitchell County emergency officials say progress is being made on the Beans Creek Fire burning near Melton Branch Road and the Shoot Out Mountain community. The wildfire was first reported over the weekend and had grown to around 30 acres as firefighters from multiple agencies worked to contain the blaze.

Officials now report the Beans Creek Fire has been maintained at 30 acres and is 60 percent contained. Melton Branch Road and the Shoot Out Mountain housing community have been downgraded to a “READY” status under the Ready, Set, Go Wildfire Action Plan. That means residents should remain alert and continue monitoring conditions, but no immediate evacuation preparations are being requested at this time. Emergency management officials thanked firefighters and partner agencies for their continued work protecting the community.
