Joseph John “Joe” Marotta IV, age 54, of Burnsville, North Carolina, passed away on May 18, 2026 surrounded by his loving and supportive family.

Born on June 3, 1971, in Rochester, New York, Joe was the son of Claudia Cooley Lathan and William Ryder, who helped raise him. He was a proud American who dedicated part of his life to serving his country in the Army and National Guard. Throughout his working years, Joe worked as a Chief Warrant Officer and was known as a hardworking, dependable man who never gave up no matter the challenge.

Joe was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and a neighbor who was always willing to help others. He was the kind of man who became a father figure not only to his own children, but to anyone who needed guidance, support, or encouragement. His family described him as strong, respectful, patriotic, intelligent, funny, dependable, and humble — a true “jack of all trades”.

He loved America deeply, valued hard work, and believed in showing up for the people he cared about. Joe was known for his punctuality, his wisdom, and the many life lessons and quotes he shared with his family. He loved hard even when life was not easy and remained a fighter until the very end.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Helen Martin Marotta; his children, Nick Marotta (Stormey) of New York, Zack Marotta (Jessen) of New York, and Derrick Marotta (Caylea) of New York; and by those he loved like a daughter, Jessi Bailey.

Joe is further survived by his brother, Michael Marotta of New York; his sister, Yvonne Ryder of New York; his sister-in-law, Sarah Sanford of Burnsville; and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was also preceded in death by his father Mark Salvatore Marotta and Rochelle McKague, whom he loved like a daughter.

Joe’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his strength, loyalty, humor, and unwavering love for family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
