Soggy Ground and strong winds contributed to power outages overnight in Mitchell County. The Duke Energy power outage map shows close to 2000 customers in Spruce Pine lost power around 12:30 am this morning. The web site indicates the outage was caused by fallen trees or limbs damaging equipment and the estimated time for power to be fully restored is by noon today. Duke energy has responded to over 4000 outages in WNC this morning.
While many areas around Burnsville reported from half an inch to an inch of rain yesterday, Spruce Pine had locations with 2.5 inches or more, helping create the soggy soil conditions that contribute to trees falling on power lines.
The National Weather Service has posted a wind advisory for WNC until 10 am Saturday morning.
