At 11:30pm on May 6th South Toe Fire and Rescue and several other agencies were dispatched to Black Mountain Campground in reference to a missing 28 year old male. After hours of searching the missing person was found by Yancey Rescue personnel at 9 am the next day. He had suffered severe dehydration and mild hypothermia. Volunteers remained with him and helped him off the trail several hours later. Involved in the rescue was South Toe Fire and Rescue, Newdale Fire Department, Burnsville Fire Department, Yancey County Rescue Squad, Yancey Communications, Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, Yancey EMS, Mount Mitchell Park Rangers, and Yancey County Emergency Management.
