An ATV accident in the Windrock area of Stony Fork Tennessee claimed the lives of three WNC residents on May 26. Sheriff Robbie Goins said three people were pronounced dead at the scene of the ATV wreck. Two of those killed were former North Buncombe athletes.
Johnny Laws and Dillon Akins played football and basketball for the Black Hawks before graduating in 2018. The other person killed was the father of Dillon Akins. A survivor from the accident, a 13-year-old boy was flown to a nearby Knoxville hospital at the University of Tennessee medical center.
The sheriff’s department said the ATV went down a 200-foot embankment into a creek. It took First Responders over an hour to get down to the accident victims.
