Laura Mathis Woodby

Laura Mathis Woodby, age 55, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at her home.

A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence “Buddy” and Fannie “Rusty” Baldwin Mathis.  She was also preceded in death by sisters:  Elizabeth Ann Mathis and Teresa Gail Mathis and brothers:  Terry Mathis and Mike Mathis.

Laura was a 1984 graduate of Mountain Heritage High School.  She was a kind soul who was always there for her family and friends.  Her infectious smile lit up the world.

Surviving are her daughters:  Amanda Woodby of Burnsville and Amie Woodby (Michael Biggs) of Burnsville; grandchildren:  Dahlia and Davien; sisters:  Connie McMahan (Jimmy) of Newdale, Susie Riehm of Banks Creek, Tammy Woodby of Charlotte and Tonya Robinson (John) of Seven Mile Ridge; brother, Bobby Mathis (Treva) of Shepherd Branch; special companion and caregiver, Ronnie Tipton of Windom and Emily Hughes, that was like a daughter to her.  Numerous nieces and nephews, who thought of her as a second mom, other extended family, and friends too numerous to mention also survive.

A memorial service to celebrate Laura’s life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 23rd at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
