Primary Election Results

Mitchell County voters were choosing County Commissioners in the election yesterday. There were 7 names on the ballots, with the top 3 being elected. Dale Blevins was the top voter getter with 1,955 votes. Lee Ellis was second with 1,652 votes and incumbent chair Harley Masters was voted back into office with 1,367 votes. In the fourth position, incumbent Brandon Dean Pittman was just 27 votes behind Masters with 1,340 votes. Dewayne McKinney had 1,250 votes, Clayton Roberts had 944 and Loren Grano had 147 votes.

In the Mitchell County Board of Education race the winners were Sam Blevins and Brenda Sparks. Blevins had 2,312 votes followed by Sparks with 1,563. Chad Greene received 1,121 votes.

In the Presidential race, 79% of the Mitchell County Republicans voted for Donald Trump. In Yancey County that number was 81%.

On the Democratic Ballot for President 86% of Mitchell County Democrats voted for Joe Biden, 14% had no preference. In Yancey County those numbers were just the same as Mitchell County.

There were no local races for the Primary in Yancey County.

In the District 11, US House of Representatives race, which include 16 Western North Carolina Counties, Chuck Edwards defeated challenger Christian Reagan with 69% of the vote.
