William George Silver, Jr

William George Silver, Jr, age 81 of the Bandana community, passed away peacefully at his home on May 20, 2024. Junior was the son of the late George and Ruth Robinson Silver. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Silver, and brother in law Ronnie Grindstaff.

Junior worked many years as a truck driver. He most recently drove for B&W Stone in Micaville and loved every minute he spent with the boys at the rockyard. He was grateful to still be driving at 80 years old. There will never be another “Hilltopper” on the roads. Junior was very proud of his family genealogy and spent a great deal of time maintaining the Silver Family Cemetery and the church at Kona so that others could research and learn about the Silver Family. He was also a true neighbor in Bandana. He took time to check on the widows in the community and was a father figure and friend to many in Bandana. Most of all Junior was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. There was not a piano or dance recital or ballgame that he missed when his kids or grandkids were involved.

He was a member of Rebels Creek Baptist Church.

Junior is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Grindstaff Silver. His children Mark and Sherry Silver, John and Misti Silver, and Jennifer and Josh Dellinger. Grandchildren, Makayla, Annali, Jackson, Riley, Jace, and Jordan and great-granddaughter Kinsley. Sister and brother in law Wanda and Tom Freeman of Spruce Pine and sister in law and her husband Ginger and Jap Phillips of Burnsville, and sister in law Norma Grindstaff. He is also survived and loved by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville at 6:00 PM with Rev. Mark McKinney officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 PM prior to the funeral. Burial will be Thursday, May 23 at 10:00 AM in the Silver Family Cemetery in Kona.
