Mission Lifts Flu Restrictions, Implements Limitation Policy

The latest influenza-like illness (ILI) report from the state health department shows a decrease in flu-like illnesses in our region. As a result, Infection Prevention, in consultation with Mission Health’s Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Public Health Epidemiologist, has decided to stop the visitor restriction policy and implement the visitor limitation policy. Hikers Rescued Off Grandfather Mtn During Bad Weather

Three  hikers from South Carolina were rescued off a trail on Grandfather Mountain on Wednesday morning, March 7th.  The group was hiking the Profile Trail off Highway 105 to Calloway Peak   when   bad weather set in. Mitchell County Hires New EDC Director

Michael “Mickey” Duvall  has been hired as the new Economic Development Director for Mitchell County. Duvall is from Franklin, NC where he was  Secretary of Commerce for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. Weaverville Walmart Evacuation

The words “A bomb is near” scribbled on a bathroom wall forced the evacuation of the Walmart store in Weaverville yesterday morning.  The incident was reported to police around 5am and a K-9 unit sniffing for bombs was on the scene 20 minutes later. There were only 10 employees and a few customers in the store at the time of the evacuation.  The store was reopened around 8:30am. The Weaverville Police Department is investigating the threat, and will file charges if they find the person responsible. There are no suspects at this point and the investigation is continuing.

Altec Fire

Multiple fire departments were called out to altec around 3 pm this afternoon to respond to a fire. The fire apparently started in a paint booth. After arriving on the scene the fire departments were able to quickly extinguish the fire. ...(more)
