Spruce Pine Woman Killed in I-26 Accident

Details of the I-26 collision on December 6th that killed a Spruce Pine woman have now been released by officials.  N.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Murico L. Stephens confirmed that Vincent Capizzi of Mills River was operating a 2004 Jeep just before 2 p.m. traveling the wrong way, west on I-26 in the eastbound lane, near the Jupiter Road exit, when he collided into a 2009 Subaru operated by 60 year-old Nancy Swann, of Beaver Creek Road, Spruce Pine. Swann died from the collision. Her teenage passenger was transported to the hospital, suffering serious injuries. 67 year old Capizzi was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Careless and Reckless Driving and Traveling the Wrong Way on a Dual Lane Highway.  The crash shut down I-26 eastbound for almost two hours. Swann’s Memorial Service was held Monday, December 9th.
