Walter Robert Byrd, Sr., born on August 19, 1936, went Home to be with the Lord and Evelyn, on May 18, 2024, at The Greens in Spruce Pine, NC.
A native of Yancey County, he was the son of the late Robert and Harriet McCourry Byrd.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five sisters, one brother, and his loving wife, Evelyn Carol Byrd, who passed away in 2021, after 64 wonderful years of marriage.
Left to cherish his memory is son, Robert (Ricki) Byrd of Venice, FL.
Memorial services will begin with a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m., and the service following at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2024, in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home in Burnsville, NC. Interment will follow the service in the Letterman Family Cemetery in Green Mountain, NC. Reverend Roger Hylemon, and Reverend Steve Glenn will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter’s name at your local humane society.
