Escaped Inmate Captured in Spindale

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction was searching for an escaped inmate Sunday afternoon. 33 year old Roy Buff left Rutherford Correctional Center shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday during family visitation. Burnsville Fit Families 5K Big Success

Each year, Partners Aligned Toward Health organizes the Burnsville Fit Families (BFF) 5K with the goal of uniting our community through healthy activity. The 13th Annual Burnsville Fit Families 5K held on Saturday, April 20th was a great success! Mitchell FFA Competes at Regional Rally

Mitchell High School FFA had 5 freshmen members complete the FFA Regional Rally on April 25th at Blue Ridge Community College. FFA member, Jenniah McClain competed in the FFA Creed speaking competition, in which contestants recited the 5 paragraphs of the FFA Creed to the judges. Heritage Animal Science Visits WNC Livestock Center

Animal Science 1 students enjoyed a trip to the WNC livestock center where they got to watch a live cattle sale! Harris and Deyton Closed Effective June 30th

At the Mitchell County Board of Education meeting on April 19th, the Board took action to officially close Harris Middle School and Deyton Elementary School, effective June 30, 2024.  The vacant schools will be offered to the Mitchell County Commissioners, as required by law.  After the Mitchell County Commissioners accept or reject the offer, further discussion will be held about the ...(more)
