Forest Service Prohibits Use of Land

As of Monday, April 13th the US Forest Service has according to an Order released,  prohibited people from being on any Forest Service road, trail or recreation site including camping for the protection of public health and safety through August 13, 2020. Forest Service Lifts Burning Bans

The N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban on all open burning for Avery, Mitchell and Yancey counties and 29 other counties in western North Carolina. The burn ban went into effect April 3 due to hazardous forest fire conditions in the area. While burn permits are now available in those counties, N.C. Red Cross Storm Response

On Monday, a strong storm traveled through the Greater Carolinas Region, causing flooding, mudslides, downed trees, power outages, and a tornado. Fourth COVID-19 Case in Mitchell Count

Friday afternoon at 4pm the Mitchell County Health Department was notified of the 4th person in the county who tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is in isolation and public health staff was working to identify close contacts to contain the spread of the disease. New Executive Order 131 Begins Today

Beginning at 5pm Today, Executive Order 131 goes into effect in NC.  Stores will need to monitor the number of people inside at one time.  The maximum allowed that is no more than 20 percent of the state’s fire capacity for that building or five people per every 1,000 square feet.
