Yancey County Ranked 8th in Education According to State-Wide Assessment

In the 2018 Roadmap of Need, an in-depth needs assessment of North Carolina Youth produced by the Public School Forum, Yancey County again ranked 8th highest in the state for education, as compared to 16th in 2014 and 24th in 2013.  This ranking is based on five indicators: AMO (annual measurable objective) targets, ACT composite score, Math I proficiency, 3rd grade reading proficiency, and graduation rate. The Roadmap of Needs is a whole child needs assessment that includes 20 indicators of wellness across four domains: health, youth behavior and safety, education, and economic development. When looking at all four domains and the 20 economic factors, Yancey County ranks 33rd  in the state.  In the other three domains, Yancey County ranked 88th in health, 50th in youth behavior and safety, and 44th in economic development.

Union County was ranked number one in the state. The only other county in our area ranked in the top twelve was Avery County at number eleven.
