Watch out when answering your telephone, the scammers are at it again. Reports of the latest scam going around include a person who sounds like they are from a foreign country but are very intelligent and official sounding. Most of the time they are using local area code numbers. The person tells you that your social security number has been comprised. They want to know all of your personal information including your social security number. They will give you an actual social security website address in order to appear authentic. They will also threaten you with arrest. The North Carolina Attorney General is investigating this scam. What you need to know is to never give your personal information out over the telephone to someone who calls you and most importantly the Social Security office will never contact you by telephone.
