Grindstaff Places Third In K9 Competition

This past week Yancey County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Handlers attended the 11th annual OPK9 seminar, competition, and certification in Allen and Warren County, Kentucky. There were over 30 teams from across the region who participated; exhibiting exemplary performance, demonstrating their dedication, expertise and commitment to excellence in law enforcement.

In the Narcotics category, the competition was fierce, with participants demonstrating exceptional proficiency in handling various scenarios. After rigorous evaluation, our own Corporal Jonathan Grindstaff with his patrol K-9 Jackie Chan emerged as a top contender, taking 3rd place.

Also attending from Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 handlers and instructors: Sergeant Joe Pate, Sergeant Christian Jones and Reserve Deputy Roscoe Bailey. Under the guidance of these instructors, participants received invaluable training and mentorship. Dedicated instructors play a pivotal role in shaping the capabilities of the K-9 & handler teams.

“I would like to say Congratulations to all of our K-9 teams and instructors,” said Sheriff Shane Hilliard. “The level of talent displayed is a testament to their dedication, skill and commitment.”
