Bakersville Fire & Rescue Breaks Ground for New Substation

Bakersville Fire and Rescue has begun construction on a new permanent substation for their rural Rhododendron Fire District. the substation will be located at the intersection of the 4500 block of Hwy 80 and Water Street in Bakersville. Former Mitchell County Man Missing Near Linville Falls

A former Mitchell County man has been missing since he was dropped off two weeks ago near Linville Falls. Forty-eight year old Dean Anthony Yelton was left by a friend on July 31st near off NC 105 near Linville Falls. A friend dropped Yelton off along with   camping  and hiking equipment. AMY Library Receives Grant For Podcast

A $12,000 grant has been awarded to Avery-Mitchell-Yancey Library System. The funding, provided by the NC Humanities Council through NC CARES will be used to develop a podcast that will preserve the stories of experiences of people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
