Bigfoot Festival Still On for September in Marion

(FESTIVAL CANCELLED) Bigfoot so far has not fallen victim to the coronavirus. Plans for the September 18th and 19th Bigfoot Festival in Marion are continuing. Yancey County Offices Closed 8/7

Yancey County Offices are CLOSED tomorrow Friday, August 7th. This normally would have been the Crafts Fair Friday- due to COVID the Crafts Fair will not go on this year BUT we will still be Closed. The Commissioners set the holiday schedule in December- at that point there was no way of knowing the Craft’s Fair would not go on. ...(more)

Mass COVID-19 Testing in State Prison Completed

RALEIGH – Press Release State prison officials have completed COVID-19 tests of all offenders in state prisons and the results show 2.1 percent were positive for the virus in a six-week mass testing operation. Of the 29,062 offenders who were tested during mass testing, a total of 619 tested positive. This positivity percentage of 2.1 percent is much lower than in prison systems in other ...(more)

Garland Takes Three Bakersville Positions

The Town of Bakersville has appointed Abby Garland to three of the town’s positions. Garland takes over the duties of town clerk, finance officer and tax collector.
