Cane River and Ray Court Park Meeting Updates

Thursday, November 14th at 1 PM, at the Yancey County Extension office, Jeff Howell, Yancey County Emergency Management Coordinator and Loren Deyton, Yancey County Parks and Recreation Director will lead a discussion on the reconstruction of the berm at Cane River Park and the renovation of Ray Cort Park. 2020 will be a busy time as both parks will be making substantial improvements. Upcoming Yancey Commissioners Meeting Tuesday, November 12

The Yancey County Commissioners regular monthly meeting will be held tomorrow evening at 6 pm instead of tonight due to Veterans Day. On the agenda for that meeting, besides the usual business matters, there will be comments on the proposed animal ordinance for Yancey County and the NC Dogs Laws. Buttke Convicted of Murder

On October 30th, 2019 Allen James Buttke, Jr. was convicted of Second Degree Murder. In the early morning hours of October 25th, 2017, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Bald Mountain Community of Yancey County. AMY Wellness Foundation Helps Fund the Jason Project

The AMY Wellness Foundation has provided a grant of $22,500 to help fund The Jason Project’s Grandfather Challenge program where at-risk youth navigate the challenging trails at Grandfather Mountain. Bear Bite

N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is reporting that a Mitchell County man was bitten by a black bear while sitting in his driveway last Saturday. He was sitting outdoors at dusk when a mama bear and her cub came through his front yard. The homeowner’s Great Dane became engaged in a fight with the mama bear.
